Installations art & large scale sculpture projects by Strijdom van der Merwe include the use of natural materials for large scale installations in the landscape as part of festivals, art residencies, and commissions. These artworks and Earth Works were created in various countries globally, including Switzerland, Italy, Japan, Finland, and Lithuania, and in various provinces, towns, festivals, and farms in South Africa.
Strijdom’s large-scale steel sculpture commissions complement the plant life and landscape of wine farms in Somerset West, Stellenbosch, and Franschhoek. Stone is often used in projects, like the sculptural installation “Peace Unification and Liberty” created for the 50th anniversary of the Korean War, in Pusan (South Korea), and the art created for the X-Border Art Biennale in Rovaniemi (Finland).
